Is Your Home Winter Ready?
December 29, 2020

Winter is here! Whether the snow is falling or the temperatures are chillier, it’s a good time to make sure your home is all set for the colder weather. We had the opportunity to chat with our service technician about interior home tips. See what he had to say!

Check the furnace filter: with the colder months, we switch to heat, so it’s a good idea to check the furnace filter. During the winter months, you may see an increase in dust getting caught in the filter, so we highly recommend starting the season with a new filter.

Check and change the humidifier pad: if you have a humidifier connected to your furnace, water flows through the humidifier pad and helps increase the amount of humidity throughout the home. The pad is designed to be changed out each heating season, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the pad making sure you switch it over before the cold weather is in full effect.

Check the humidity level in the house: you’ll want to aim between 30 and 40% relative humidity in the home, which will fluctuate based on the outside conditions. If you do not have a thermostat that shares the humidity throughout the home, a humidistat is a great option. It’s important to keep an eye on the humidity because in the winter, too much humidity can cause moisture to build up on windows, wood floors can start to swell, and cabinet doors and drawers could become sticky.

We’re grateful that we were able to interview Ron for some interior maintenance tips. We hope you learned something to take action on this winter season!
