Patio, daylight, garden, and walkout sites - what do these all mean? As you’re searching for the right home site, it’s important to understand which will be a good fit for you to build your new home! Read on to learn more.
Patio sites: We often talk about patio sites. With these foundation types, the lower level is completely underground, with the ability to put egress windows in. On the main floor, you’ll walk out to ground level - to a patio. This foundation is great if you prefer patios over decks, and it’s also cost efficient and is easy for letting pets in and out of the house.
Daylight sites: These are similar to patio sites, with the exception being that we can often fit small windows in the lower level to allow natural light. Again, from the main level, you will walk out to a patio.
Garden level: This foundation type is unique and may change depending on the floor plan and the lay of the land. With this, the lower level is half underground, allowing large and operable windows. If you like a lot of light in your lower level, but don’t care for a door to the outside, this is a great option for you. Depending on the lay of the land and where the windows are located, from your main level, you may walk out to a deck with stairs to the ground or you may have a patio.
Walkout level: With a walkout, your lower level is completely above ground. This allows for door access to the backyard from your basement. Often, you’ll walk out from the lower level to a patio space. From the main level, you’ll walk out to a deck that sits over the patio. Depending on the yard space and the community you’re in, the deck may or may not have stairs to the ground. This is a great option if you like to have both a patio and deck.
We know it can be confusing with all of the terms! Hopefully this cleared it up and will help as you look for the perfect home site.
Every home is custom. Every client is unique. Everyone has choices and selections, and we take the time to consider each of them.
