Home design trends come and go, so we sat down with Lindsey to get an idea of what she’s seeing in the current home market. Join us for a fun and insightful interview on home selections and how interior finishes are a great way to express yourself as you design your home.

What colors are you seeing trend right now? We are currently in a transition period in regard to colors. The past couple of years we have seen a lot of gray, and more recently, we are transitioning to warmer colors. We like to call it “greige”, which is a mix of gray and beige. This warmer color or variation of, offers versatility with existing furniture. It makes it easier for you to relate new pieces of furniture or artwork to old pieces and adds coziness and warmth to your new home. We are also seeing a lot of whites as it’s a very sterile and clean look. Many are selecting white trim and cabinetry as well as other white details throughout their home.

What tips do you have on mixing wood and metal details? We have seen this very often and it can be tricky to execute properly. With woods, it’s important to follow color families as all woods have a color undertone. Working with those undertones can help you tie woods together throughout your home. For both metal and woods, it really helps to have repetition of similar finishes throughout your home. For example, you may have black door hardware and black lighting, and then in your bathrooms, you may have polished chrome plumbing fixtures. To make that more cohesive, adding polished chrome cabinet hardware would be a great choice. You can also match finishes throughout your home with furniture that you have. Let’s say you have a wood table that you are moving with you, a great option would be to stain match the fireplace mantel to that table.

What styles and trends do you see in kitchen design? This is typically the favorite room of the home as it’s a great place to entertain! We are still seeing a lot of white cabinets and subway tile backsplash or a variation of, and veined white quartz counters. There is a transition of adding those warmer concepts to the kitchen including staining the island and having a wood hood or some detail to add warmth or texture to the room. Open floor plans with large kitchen islands are still very popular as are casual dining spaces rather than formal dining rooms.

Styles are always changing as time goes on. The best advice is to make selections based on what you like. After all, it’s your home!
