Mattawan 2024 School Bonds Kicks Off with Stadium Groundbreaking Ceremony
Last month, we broke ground on the Mattawan Consolidated Schools Track and Turf project, marking the official start of a transformative $110 million, multi-year bond initiative. Passed in 2024, this investment will bring a brand-new fieldhouse, an aquatic center, state-of-the-art turf fields, a 12-court tennis complex, and vital infrastructure improvements to the district.
Beyond athletics, the bond will fund upgrades to campus safety, learning spaces, and technology. The high school auditorium will receive modernized seating, lighting, and media equipment, while renovations to lockers, bathrooms, and lighting are also planned. Additionally, the high school weight room and locker rooms will be overhauled. This milestone groundbreaking marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Mattawan students and the community!

Mt. Zion Breaks Ground on Legacy Senior Living
Last month, we celebrated the start of The Mt Zion Baptist Church Legacy Senior Living project with a groundbreaking ceremony. This significant project marks an exciting step forward for Kalamazoo's historic Northside neighborhood. Located at 128 E. Frank St. and 127 E. North St., the development will provide 70 affordable, energy-efficient units designed with accessibility and sustainability in mind.
The Legacy Senior Living will feature two modern, three-story buildings offering a range of amenities, including a community room, beauty salon, library, and outdoor gathering spaces. Targeted for seniors aged 55 and older, this $27 million project aims to address the community's need for affordable senior housing while also enhancing the neighborhood's vibrancy.
This initiative aligns with the City of Kalamazoo’s Master Plan and the Northside Neighborhood Association’s vision. With Mt. Zion's congregation of over 2,500 actively involved in shaping the project, the development reflects the community's dedication to providing quality housing options
