The first of many buildings added to the Portage School building program, the 12th Street Elementary project added a two-story, 24 classroom school to house 500 students. Interactive teacher stations allow for instant display and demonstration of learning material due to Technology Enhanced Classrooms (TEC). Other features such as a warming kitchen in the cafeteria allows for versatility as an auditorium with movable walls separating the spaces.
The school was constructed to meet or exceed sustainable design standards for energy efficiency, occupant comfort and air quality. Many of the used materials were either made of recycled content, used for their future recyclability, contained low volatile organic compounds, as well as durability. A geothermal system was also installed to provide a renewable energy source for the school.
Creating long-term, satisfied clients means doing everything right and keeping clients well-informed throughout the project.
